NATION’S TRIBUTE TO OUR WAR HEROES

Quite a large number of Thurstanites are currently serving the armed Forces and the Police with the primary responsibility of safeguarding the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our motherland.  They are engaged in severe confrontations with the separatist terrorists in the north of the Island placing even their lives at stake on behalf of the country and the people. Some old boys of our dearest alma mater have bravely made their supreme sacrifice in battle against the terrorists and have contributed immensely in safeguarding the motherland in order to create a better future for you and me alike.

In order to recognize the valour and service by the fallen Old Thurstanites giants, it was decided by the OBU as pertinent to construct a memorial/monument within the college premises to salute these heroes.

The Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony was held on Monday 20th September 2008 with the participation of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Jayantha Wickramaratne, as Chief Guest along with other distinguished VVIP’s.  The Ceremony was attended by a large gathering of present and past students of the College and parents and well wishers.

War Heroes Monument Unveiling Ceremony will be held in January 2009 with the participation of a large gathering with His Excellency Mahinda Rajapakse, The President of the Democratic Socialist  Republic of Sri Lanka, who himself is an old Thurstanite gracing the occasion.
