Air Vice Marshal (Retired) Sampath Thuyacontha has been appointed as the new Secretary of Defence.
Thuyacontha joined the Sri Lanka Air Force on 17th of May 1988 to the 19th Intake as an Officer Cadet and was commissioned as a Pilot Officer in the General Duties Pilot Branch in the year 1990.
After completion of training in the year 1990 he was deployed for flying duties as an operational pilot in Bell 212/412 helicopters. In 2001, he was posted to No 9 Attack Helicopter Squadron, Sri Lanka Air Force Base Hingurakgoda as the Second in Command and later was appointed as the Commanding Officer in the year 2005.
During his long tenure, he actively participated for all major operations which includes Humantarian War to liberate North and East and he managed to log more than 7000 flying hours as an Operations/ VIP and Attack Helicopter Pilot of Sri Lanka Air Force.
Air Vice Marshal Thuyacontha also served as the Defense Adviser to the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Islamabad, Pakistan for a period of two years and as the Chief Instructor of the Defence Services Command and Staff Collage in the year 2014.
For his individual acts of gallantry and bravery in the face of the enemy during the Humanitarian Operations he was decorated with “Weera Wickrama Vibhushanaya” (WWV), “Rana Wickrama Padakkama” (RWP) and “Rana Sura Padakkama” (RSP) on several occasions.
නව ආරක්ෂක ලේකම්වරයා ලෙස එයාර් වයිස් මාර්ෂල් (විශ්‍රාමික) සම්පත් තුයියකොන්තා මහතා පත් කර ඇත.
1988 මැයි මස 17 වන දින ශ්‍රී ලංකා ගුවන් හමුදා කැඩෙට් නිලධාරියෙකු ලෙස එක් වූ තුයියකොන්තා මහතා, 1990 වර්ෂයේදී සාමාන්‍ය රාජකාරි නියමු නිලධාරියෙකු ලෙස පත් කරන ලදී.
එමෙන්ම 1990 වසරේ හෙතෙම බෙල් 212/412 හෙලිකොප්ටර් යානාවල මෙහෙයුම් නියමුවෙකු ලෙස පියාසර රාජකාරි සඳහා යොදවා ඇත.
2001 වසරේ දී ඔහු දෙවන අණදෙන නිලධාරියෙකු ලෙස ශ්‍රී ලංකා ගුවන් හමුදා හිඟුරක්ගොඩ කඳවුරේ අංක 9 ප්‍රහාරක හෙලිකොප්ටර් බලඝණයට පත් කරන ලද අතර, පසුව 2005 වසරේදී අණදෙන නිලධාරි ලෙස පත් කරන ලදී.
ඔහු සිය දීර්ඝ සේවා කාලය තුළ උතුරු නැගෙනහිර මුදාගැනීමේ මානුෂීය මෙහෙයුම ඇතුළු සියලුම ප්‍රධාන මෙහෙයුම් සඳහා ක්‍රියාකාරීව සහභාගී වී ඇත.
එමෙන්ම ශ්‍රී ලංකා ගුවන් හමුදාවේ ප්‍රහාරක හෙලිකොප්ටර් නියමුවෙකු ලෙස පියාසර පැය 7,000කට අධික කාලයක් වාර්තා කිරීමට ද සමත් වී ඇත.
ඔහු වසර දෙකක කාලයක් පාකිස්තානයේ ඉස්ලාමාබාද් හි ශ්‍රී ලංකා මහ කොමසාරිස් කාර්යාලයේ ආරක්ෂක උපදේශක ලෙස ද කටයුතු කළේය.
මානුෂීය මෙහෙයුම් වලදී ඔහු කළ විශිෂ්ට සේවාව වෙනුවෙන් ‘වීර වික්‍රම විභූෂණ’ (WWV), ‘රණ වික්‍රම පදක්කම’ (RWP) සහ ‘රණ සූර පදක්කම’ (RSP) යන ගෞරවයන් හිමිකරගෙන ඇත.

තර්ස්ටන් විද්‍යාලයීය 2022/23 ශිෂ්‍ය නායක මණ්ඩලය සදහා තේරී පත්වූ ශිෂ්‍යන් හට ශිෂ්‍ය නායක ලාංඡන පැළදවීමේ උත්සවය විද්‍යාලයේ කීර්තිමත් ආදී ශිෂ්‍යෙකු වන ශ්‍රී ලංකා ගුවන් හමුදාවේ ගෘප් කපිතාන් සුබාෂ් ජයතිලක මහතාගේ ප්‍රධානත්වයෙන්, විද්‍යාලයේ විදුහල්පති ප්‍රමුදිත වික්‍රමසිංහ මහතාගේ මූලිකත්වයෙන් හා ජ්‍යෙෂ්ඨ හා කණිෂ්ඨ ආදී ශිෂ්‍ය සංගමයේ සාමාජිකයන්ගේ සහභාගීත්වයෙන් 2022 දෙසැම්බර් මස 30වන අඟහරුවාදා දින විද්‍යාලයේ ප්‍රධාන රංග ශාලාවේදී පවත්වන ලදී.මේ සදහා විද්‍යාලයේ ආචාර්ය මණ්ඩලයේ ගුරුබවතුන් කිහිප දෙනෙකු, 2021/22 ශිෂ්‍ය නායක මණ්ඩලයේ සාමාජිකයින් හා 2022/23 ශිෂ්‍ය නායක මණ්ඩලය සදහා තේරී පත්වූ ශිෂ්‍යන්ගේ දෙමාපියන්ද සහභාගී විය.
2021 අ.පො.ස. සාමාන්‍ය පෙළ ( 2022 මැයි ) විභාගයට පෙනී සිටීමට අපේක්ෂිත සිසු දරුවන්ගේ විෂය නිපුණතා සාධන මට්ටම ඉහළ නැංවීමේ අරමුණින් දියත් කෙරෙන ‘ WINGS ‘ ප්‍රතිපෝෂණ වැඩසටහන් මාලාවේ සමාරම්භක සැසිය අද දින (ජනවාරි 24 ) තර්ස්ටන් විද්‍යාලයීය ප්‍රධාන ශාලාවේ දී සාර්ථක ව පැවැත්විණි .
ප්‍රධාන සමාරාධිතයා වශයෙන් ඊට සහභාගි වූ , මධ්‍යම සංස්කෘතික අරමුදලේ අධ්‍යක්ෂ ජනරාල් මහාචාර්ය ගාමිණී රණසිංහ විද්වතාණෝ , ස්වකීය ජීවන අත්දැකීම් පාදක කර ගනිමින් , පරාජය මතින් ම ජයග්‍රහණය හඹා යා හැකි ආකාරය පිළිබඳ හරවත් දේශනයක් පැවැත්වූහ. විද්‍යාලයීය විදුහල්පති ප්‍රමුදිත වික්‍රමසිංහ මැතිතුමාගේ සංකල්පයක් අනුව දියත් කෙරෙන මේ සුවිශේෂ ව්‍යාපෘතිය , හෙට ( 25 ) දින සිට ඉදිරියට ක්‍රියාත්මක කෙරෙනු ඇත. විද්‍යාලයීය වත්මන් සුවිශේෂ ව්‍යාපෘති මාලාවේ 6 වන අදියර වශයෙන් මේ වැඩසටහන දියත් කෙරේ.
