This team of dedicated Thurstanites steps forward with commitment and vision to serve our alma mater and strengthen the Brotherhood of Thurstan.
We extend our best wishes to all council members as they begin their term, continuing the legacy of excellence built over 75 years.
Under the Smart Board Installation Project for Grades 6–11, initiated by the Old Boys’ Union (OBU) of Thurstan College, the 90 Group has generously contributed Rs. 1,312,000 to fund four Smart Boards for Grade 11 classrooms. This donation was coordinated through a strong collaboration between the OBU and the 90 Group, led by the President of 90 Group and the OBU Vice President, Mr. Upul Gajaweera, along with OBU General Secretary, Mr. Aruna Shantha Amarasinghe.
The remaining three Smart Boards, valued at approximately Rs. 1,000,000 for Grade 11 classes, will be sponsored by the OBU Secretary, Mr. Aruna Shantha Amarasinghe to complete the project’s first phase. The initiative aims to elevate learning through interactive, technology-enabled instruction and to cultivate 21st-century skills such as curiosity, critical thinking, and collaboration.
Plans for subsequent phases are underway and will be implemented as soon as possible. The 92 Group has already pledged two additional Smart Boards, and the OBU expects further support from other groups to accelerate completion of the project.
This initiative embodies OBU shared commitment to excellence, equity, and innovation in education. Thank you to all who contributed and collaborated to bring this vision to life.

To develop 21st-century skills, students must be given opportunities beyond classrooms, and Thurstan College has embraced this vision. Its upcoming Knight-Ro 2025 exhibition is a powerful testament to the school’s commitment to preparing students for the future, as in today’s fast-changing world, education can no longer stop at textbooks.
Organised to celebrate the college’s 75th anniversary, Knight-Ro 2025 will run from 28 to 30 August, transforming the school premises into a hub of creativity, innovation, and discovery. With more than 100 student-led booths alongside 100 exhibits from government and private sector partners, the event promises a vibrant display of knowledge, talent, and innovation.
The Technology Zone will spotlight robotics, artificial intelligence, engineering projects, and immersive virtual reality, while other sections will showcase arts and culture, environmental sustainability, communication, sports, and business ventures. Together, they demonstrate that education at Thurstan College extends far beyond academics—shaping students to meet the challenges of real life.
Through these experiences, students sharpen critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills—the very qualities essential for tomorrow’s leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs.
With participation from universities, industries, government bodies, and schools across the country, Knight-Ro 2025 is set to become one of Sri Lanka’s largest educational exhibitions. Above all, it reflects Thurstan College’s enduring mission: to nurture future-ready citizens in a rapidly evolving world.
The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the construction of a three-storey building for Thurstan College in Colombo.
According to the government, the building experts at the University of Moratuwa have shown in a report that an old three-storey building at the school is unsuitable for student usage.
The building experts have further recommended that the building be demolished.
As such, the Cabinet has approved the proposal presented by the Prime Minister, in her capacity as the Minister of Education, to construct a new three-storey building instead of the old building.
