The All Island Inter School Swimming Competition was held 17th to 20th June 2015 at the Sugathadasa Swimming Pool Complex, concluded successfully with large number of students and spectators in attendance.
It was a happy weekend for Thurstanites and after several years we were able to earn some achievements during the meet with a 3rd place winning by our Captain, Anupa Manjitha Gamage – under 19, 200m free – 2.10.15. He was talented enough to manage that level even with bare practicing due to his jaw injury.
There were two qualifying time achievements by Thurstanites,
Saniru Thamuditha Muthukumarana under 11, 50 m butterfly, one of our talented swimmers who has earned the all island 2nd place in his age group at the Pentathlon Swimming Competition held recently.
Ramin Rathnayaka – under 13, 100m Fly.

Thurstan College Aquatic Club in Association with the Department of Education and Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union has organized an ALL ISLAND INTER SCHOOL BIGINNERS SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP on Saturday February 5th & Sunday February 6th at the Thurstan College Swimming Pool Complex.
This ground breaking championship has attracted 475 girls from 47 Schools & clubs and 610 boys from 58 Schools & clubs. On the first day the girls events will be held and the Chief Guest will be the new Secretary of Education Mr H M Gunasekara and on the final day the boys events will be held, the Chief- Guest will be the the Minister of Education Hon Bandula Gunawardana.

President’s Trophy Swimming C’ships

The second annual Mercantile swimming championships for the President’s Trophy organised by the Thurstan College Aquatic Club in association with the Sri Lanka Amateur Aquatic Sports Union (SLAASU) will be worked off on October 12 at the Thurstan College Swimming Pool Complex.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa reminiscing his happy childhood at Thurstan College and an athlete of Public School fame decided to promote the President’s Trophy to mark yet another memorable chapter in the history of sports at Thurstan.
The inaugural championship in 2007 was a tremendous success with a large participation and was won by John Keells Holdings while SriLankan Airlines became the worthy runners up.
This year the Organising Committee is making elaborate arrangements to add many new features that should attract a large number of swimming enthusiasts from the Mercantile Sector. The Organising Committee of this event is headed by Lion Graetian Gunawardhana the sole presenter of the swimming pool complex to his beloved alma mater and the chairman of the swimming pool complex.
The Management Company also includes the pioneer swimmer from Thurstan Gavin Amarasinghe for technical advice and the present President of the swimming pool Management Committee Bhathiya Seebert. Each mercantile firm can enter only one team for men and women and the teams should be represented by only a maximum of three participants per event excluding the relay events.
In addition each competitor is allowed to take part in a maximum of three events in each category excluding the relays. In respect of relay events a firm could enter upto two teams per event.
The names of all such participants should be listed in the entry form.
Entries close on September 25 with Raja Weerasuriya, Manager, Thurstan College Swimming Pool Complex Office, Thurstan College , Colombo 3.

Started in – 1962
Beginnings – Swimming as sport was started at Thurstan under the guidance of then principal late Mr. M. D. Gunawardhana who introduced many new new sports to Thurstan. The Thurstan College swimming club was also forward then, and the 1st Master in Charge cum come was the late Mr. Edison Silva. The First secretary of the club was Mr. Bhathiya Seebert. After a lapse of seven years the club was given new strength by Mr. Jagath Weerasekara.
Strength – 130 students
Programmes – Sending students for inter school swimming competitions. Mauing the triangular sportsmeet with Nalanda and D. S. Senanayake Colleges Sending students for water polo competitors.
