June 30, Colombo: Senior Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Jayantha Wickremaratne assumes duties as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP) from tomorrow. He will be the 31st IGP of Sri Lanka police department.
A ceremony was held to felicitate the departing IGP Victor Perera in Colombo this evening. Mr. Wickremaratne joined the police Force in 1974 as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and was promoted to the rank of Superintendent of Police in 1983. He was promoted as a Senior SP in 1989 and Deputy Inspector General of Police in 1993.
He was an old boy of Thurstan College in Colombo and holder of an Honours Degree in Public Administration from Sri Jayawardenepura University. He also received his post graduate diploma certificate in criminology from Sri Jayewardenepura University recently.
Wickremaratne is a member of the National Dangerous Drug Control Board, Director National Child Protection Authority, Council Member of the International Police Organisation, Secretary, and the President of the Police Savings Association.
He was also the President of the Sri Lanka Amateur Kabadi Federation in 2001 and Chairman of the Police Kabadi Tournament Committee since year 2000.

Thurstan OBU has organized a felicitation to Old Thurstanite Dixon Dela Bandara currently an Advisor to the Thurstan OBU, on his appointment as the Govenor of Sabaragamuwa.
As you know over so many years Dixon has being closely associated with Thurstan & the OBU. He never misses the Big Match and is always present at the Dinner Dance, with a crowd of his class mates invariably sponsored by him.
Hence it will be appropriate that many of us of his vintage be present at this felicitation which will be held on Saturday April 5th at 7.30 PM Galle Face Hotel.
The Ticket is priced at RS 2 500 /= for an Old Boy & RS 2 000/= for the spouse.
Please make every effort to be present. Tickets are available at the Swimming Pool office.

Donated By Old Thurstanite Hon. Mahinda Rajapakse then Opposition Leader at a cost of 1.3 million rupees. College received this donation in the year 2000

Donated by Mr. S.T.K Fernando which cost 200,000 Rupees. This was donated in 1996

As mentioned earlier, we are doing this for the benefit of young Thurstanites and I urge our senior members to give your full support.

As you may be aware the College is having their Annual Dinner Dance on 17th Nov, 2007, at Waters Edge. This time the committee decided to give a part of the funds to the Rugby Development Fund, this also coincides the Jubilee year for Thurstan Rugby.
Therefore I would be much obliged if you could find sponsorship for the Dance.We also have the letters also for the following
