PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Mr. E. M. S. Ekanayake

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

With the development and gradual evolution through thousands of years, human beings have achieved many remarkable victories. The rapid advancement of modern science and technology have paved way to create many inventions. The global community has the ability to effortlessly share knowledge and experiences that is spread throughout the world. The speed of achieving knowledge and technology depend on the information technology systems and the education of a particular country. Today this has become a decisive factor of economic development and the prosperity of a country.

The educational development is not meant by the rate of literacy or the number of students who get through examinations. The real meaning behind the word ?education? is producing able men to face social and global challenges, while fruitfully contributing towards the sustainable development of the world.

Thurstan College, Colombo being one of the leading schools in the country has produced a great number of excellent personalities and expert scholars in the fields of science, technology, social services, and politics etc. These alumni of Thurstan serve their motherland with pride and continue our utmost duty to shape the characters of the nation to suit the needs of the future.

Our greatest responsibility and duty is not only to produce the well-educated individual, but also to produce citizens who bear good morals and human values. Thurstan is continuing this programme by guiding our students to become a well-balanced educated Sri Lankan with good moral character.

As it is said by V.I.Lenin ?we should mould the characters of the children, not to go with us, but to speed us?, thus creating a nation who face global challenges better than us and see the world with an open eye towards the future.

Principal’s message

It is with great pleasure I pen this message to the Thurstan College WEB.With the rapid advance in communication, the world has become a global village and the need to have updated information is a sine quo non.WEB is a source that could provide the information of the College activities to Thurstan Community spread all over the world. It is also a good channel to provide contact to Old boys and also to give information of their achievements to their colleagues. But having a WEB per say will not provide this information. There should be systems in place to gather the information and disseminate in the WEB in the shortest possible time.I am confident that the Thurstan Old boy WEB committee will meet this goal.Wishing you all the best

Message from the Principal – Mr.Weerathunga

Message from the Principal

It gives me great pleasure to have been requested to issue a message as the head of the institution at this juncture of introducing an official web site for Thurstan College.

I am really proud and happy on this special occasion as students of Thurstan College ventured to introduce a web site for the college of? their own. Presently, time is so precious that men, women & children endeavor to get the maximum return in? a short time.

Considering the latest technological advancement, the advantage of having an official web site no doubt facilitates global access. Any one who has access to internet can obtain the required information at the press of a button.

Those Thurstanites and others who are living away from us could obtain upto date information concerning college activities such as the on going development project of the college play ground at Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo-07, etc. I sincerely hope old Thurstanites living in different parts of the globe will make use of this web site.

Sometime ago the telephone was considered to be an advanced mode of communication but today with the introduction of web sites, etc. It has become very convenient in extracting global information within a short time.

Web sites have become very popular in the commercial sphere since time factor is very vital in business related activities.

I wish the students concerned good luck on their maiden attempt and trust that more and more novel attempts such as this may be introduced for the common benefit of all.

R. D. M. P. Weerathunga
Principal of Thurstan College
