Thurstan Kicks Off 2014 School Rugby Season on 21st March in Kandy
Thurstan College Colombo will kick off the 2014 School Rugby Season on 21st March in Kandy when they play St.Sylvester’s College at Bogambara Stadium. (Kick off @ 4.30pm)
Thurstan will be playing in Group 1 in Segment B this year. This year Thurstan is led by 4th year colorsman Janith Deniyage, a versatile player who will occupy the fly half position. His deputy is Senura Kalanaka, another 4th year colorsman who will lead the forwards at No.8. Mohamed Ali Bohari, (4th Year), Tilan Perera (3rd Year) & Sukitha Liyanage (3rd Year) will add experience to the side. Thurstan is coached by Sunanda Fernanndo and is assisted by Nilantha Perera as the Assistant coach/Trainer.
With Thurstan Rugby Club being reviewed to support Thurstan Rugby, and many old boys coming forward to support an improved performance can be expected this year from Thurstan.
93 GROUP LANDSCAPING PROJECT 93 Group done a landscaping project costing RS. 115,000.00 as their annual project behind the college scoreboard and handed over to the college on 11th of January, 2014.
According to the principal’s instruction new CCTV camera system were installed in school premises. The total project handled by college 94 group. The system launched on 7th of February, 2014 by the hand of college principal Col. ADMD Bandara.
Th Annual Sports Meet for the year 2014 will be held on Thursday February 13th at Thurstan Cricket Grounds at Prof Stanley Wijesundera Mawatha.
Notable feature will be two distinguish Athletes of Public School fame in the late 1960’s are giving new Shields for the Champion & Runners-up house respectively

The Principal and the staff ( Academic & Non Academic ) of Thurstan College pleased to invite former Principals, Teachers and Old Boys and to coincide with the 64th Anniversary of the Thurstan College, decided to hold the above All Night Pirith Ceremony followed by Morning Alms Giving at the College Main Hall.
The All night Pirith Ceremony will be on the 7th February (Friday) 2014.
The Principal, Teachers, Academic /non academic staff and Thurstan College Old Boys Union, wishes if all invitees and their family members too could participate in this event to make it successful.
This tournament was conducted on a knock out basis among winners of the Provincial tournament held in their respective Provinces. By winning this tournament Old Thurstanites are eligible to participate in the Division 2 tournament conducted by SRI LANKA CRICKET in 2014-15 season and also eligible to play in the SLC Under 23 Division 3 tournament in 2014. The team consisted mostly of of the Current Thurstan 1st XI team. The team was managed by the energetic OBU Functional Secretary of Cricket Shantha Silva .

Old Thurstanites won by 102 runs.
It is after 8 years, a Colombo District Cricket team has won the SLC Division III championship and Old Thurstanites are in the finals of two other tournaments.
Colombo District tournament (16th of December @ NCC Grounds) and Western Provincial tournament date not finalised yet.
OLD THURSTANITE KUSALA FERNANDO -CO-CHAIR COMMONWEALTH YOUTH LED TASK FORCE
Kusala had the unique opportunity of being Co-Chair with Australian Ms Ellie Seckold at the Commonwealth Youth Forum held prior to CHOGM 2013 at Hambantota.
He is the son of the late Mr K W Fernando who was the Master-in Charge of cricket at Thurstan in the early 90’s when Thurstan won the big match on 3 consecutive years
Kusala Fernando-Co-Chair
Kusala Kumara Jayendra Fernando is a 28year old youth leader who engaged with lots of social work and youth development programs in various youth organizations during last ten years.
He attended to Thurstan College, Colombo where he passed G.C.E.A/L examination in Physical Science Stream. Kusala was a Senior Prefect at School in 2003 and held many positions in school associations such as Vice President of School Science Society, Vice President of School Sinhala Literary Association, Secretary of School Media Circle, Secretary of School Photographic Society, Chief Editor of School Buddhist Association and Chief Organizer of School English Literary Association.
He was graduated from Northumbria University (UK) in Leadership and Management in 2010 and currently reading for MBA Degree at Cardiff Metropolitan University (UK) and for the LLB Degree at Open University of Sri Lanka. Also he successfully completed the Professional Qualification in Human Resources Management (PQHRM) at Institute of Personnel Management of Sri Lanka. As well as he completed Higher Diploma in International Relations at Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS) in Sri Lanka.
Kusala is currently working as the Regional Youth Caucus Representative of Sri Lanka of Commonwealth Youth Programme (CYP). Also he?s the Chairman of the Commonwealth Youth Network in Sri Lanka. As well as he was the Chairperson of the Foreign Bureau of Sri Lanka Federation of Youth Clubs in year 2012-2013. Also Kusala was a member of the Commonwealth Advisory Body on Sports in 2011-2012 and, he was the first ever male youth representative of it from all the Commonwealth countries. As well as he was the Minister of Sports Affairs at the first Sri Lanka Youth Parliament which has taken place in 2011-2013. Over the years Kusala participated in many international conferences representing Sri Lanka such as Commonwealth Youth Leaders? conference 2013 in Papua New Guinea, Asia Youth Leaders? Summit 2012 at Delhi, India, Commonwealth Youth Forum 2011 at Perth, Australia, Commonwealth Youth Leaders Conference 2010 at Chandigarh, India, and SAARC Youth Conference on Promoting Regional Harmony 2010, at Islamabad, Pakistan. Also he was the leader of the Sri Lanka Youth team participated in the UK- Sri Lanka Young Leaders? Exchange 2012. During last ten years he engaged with social service activities such as organizing Blood Donation campaigns, Disease Prevention programs, and religious programs through youth clubs movement in Sri Lanka. Also he engaged with youth development programs such as youth leadership development programs, youth camps, youth personality development programs and skills development programs in Sri Lanka. He is looking forward to engage with more youth development activities in the future and to serve his motherland.
